Wildcat Tidbits
• Davidson will kick-off its 2017 men's soccer season Saturday evening when Presbyterian visits Alumni Stadium and 1992 Team Field for a 6 p.m. contest.
• The Wildcats, who are unbeaten in 17 of their last 18 to begin a season, are 34-21-6 all-time in openers.
• A year ago, Davidson suffered a 3-1 setback to Gardner-Webb, ending an unbeaten streak of 17 straight to start a campaign.
• The Wildcats are 11-1-4 in season openers under head coach Matt Spear '93, who is in his 17th year at the helm.
• In addition to posting a 2-0-1 mark during the preseason, the Wildcats went 4-0-5 in exhibition matches dating back to the spring.
• Davidson returns eight starters from last year's team that dropped eight games decided by one goal, including three in overtime.
• The Wildcats have never lost to PC in men's soccer, leading the all-time series, 7-0-0.
• Presbyterian, a member of the Big South Conference, finished 7-10-3 overall and 4-4-0 in league play a year ago.
• Up next, Davidson will host another Big South foe in Radford on Friday at 7 p.m.
Quotes from the Coach
"Opening weekend is always exciting for all 200 teams as everyone is full of optimism and vigor. I believe that our team has put in the quality effort and discipline to be confident as preparation leads to peak performances."
"The eight seniors have really leaned in since winter and they have grown individually and collectively to become driven, trusted, team-first leaders."
"Our unified focus has been on Family, Striving Together, and Excellence and we now get to harness these strengths in action."
"Coach Potter is a friend and respected colleague who did a great job igniting PC soccer in his first season and no surprise to me he's quickly elevated their program."
"We can't wait to see students and fans at 1992 Team Field and the much improved Alumni Soccer Stadium. Due to extremely generous gifts from alumni and soccer parents, we added the red chair back seating section at midfield last summer. And this summer we installed new windscreen, a dynamic Daktronics scoreboard that will include player photos and expanded the press box."
