Peterson’s Header Lifts ‘Cats Over Presbyterian in Opener, 2-1

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Aidan Peterson's 58th minute header proved to be the difference as Davidson edged Presbyterian, 2-1, in men's soccer action, Saturday evening at Alumni Stadium.
With the win, the Wildcats are unbeaten in 18 of their last 19 season openers, including a 12-1-4 mark under head coach Matt Spear.
Peterson's game-winner was set up by fellow forward Jaylen Thompson, off a centering pass from the far side.
Davidson (1-0) finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots, while PC held a 5-4 edge in corners.
Shortly after Matt Reinikka converted a penalty kick to put the Wildcats up, 1-0, Presbyterian's Clement Vannier forced a turnover and evened the score from about 10 yards out at the 20:31 mark.
Reinikka's third career strike was a result of Thompson drawing a foul in the box on PC's keeper.
Sam Bissett recorded three saves for the Wildcats to pick up his first career win.
