CHARLESTON, S.C. – Davidson battled College of Charleston to a 2-2 draw in preseason men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Patriots Point.
The former Southern Conference rivals played a pair of 45-minute periods before concluding with a 20-minute session.
Charlie Caswell put the Wildcats in front midway through the opening half. The sophomore's goal in the 27th minute was set up by classmate Jaylen Thompson following a ball played in on the left side from Aidan Peterson.
The Cougars took a 2-1 lead into the final frame with goals from Marcelo Malpatida (40') and Scotty Frantz (55').
Senior co-captain Matt Reinikka, who played the entire contest, provided the equalizer off a penalty kick with 12 minutes to play.
In all, the Wildcats played 24 of the 27 players listed on their roster.
"Proud of the guys to claw back and earn a tie in honestly the hottest game I've ever coached," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "Our fitness, depth and team spirit were vitally tested. We will study and discuss the video, then apply learning lessons moving forward."
Sam Bissett recorded a pair of saves for the Wildcats.
Davidson will continue its exhibition slate with a 6 p.m. kickoff against in-state foe Campbell on Saturday evening.
