Wildcats Begin Month of March With 6-1 Win

DELAND, Fla.  — The Davidson women's tennis team started the month of March the same way it ended February, with another impressive win as they downed UNC Wilmington 6-1 in a neutral site match on the campus of Stetson Sunday morning.

The Wildcats won their third straight to run their record to 8-2 on the season, while sending the Seahawks (4-3) to their second straight defeat.

Five different players kept their singles win streaks alive, while the doubles duo of Alexandra Abele and Ava Todd remained perfect on the year by taking a 7-4 tie-breaker win at No. 3 to help Davidson win the doubles point. The pair ran their record to 9-0 on the season.

Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton earned the other doubles point with a 6-0 blanking of their UNCW opponent at No. 2.

The freshman Abele led the way in singles, recording her sixth consecutive win at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. She was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the third time earlier in the week and sits at 9-1 on the season

Megan Scholvinck won her fourth in a row, pushing her record to 8-2 with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 2.

Winning their third matches in a row were the tandem of Gabrielle Centenari and Samantha Armas, both coming back from a set down. Centenari won her sixth match by taking a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(6) at No. 3, while Armas sealed up her sixth win as well by scoring a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0(10).

Giving the 'Cats their final team point was Ava Todd at No. 5. The junior secured a 6-3, 6-2 victory to improve to 6-4.
