DELAND, Fla. — Davidson finished off its trip to the sunshine state with a 5-2 road win over Stetson to run its winning streak to a season-high four in a row in non-conference women's tennis action Monday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Wildcats pushed their record to 9-2 and swept their two matches against UNC Wilmington and the Hatters (1-9).
Leading the charge again was Alexandra Abele in singles play, as the freshman won her seventh straight match by scoring a 7-6, 6-3 decision at No. 4. Nine of her 10 wins on the season have come at No. 4.
She also teamed up with Ava Todd at No. 3 to push their win streak to 10 in a row after securing a 6-3 victory. The 10-straight is one way from matching the 11 that Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton recorded last year.
Fellow freshman Samantha Armas nailed down her fourth consecutive win, a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 6 to push her record to 7-3 on the season.
Todd ran her record to 7-4 at No. 5 with a strong 6-1, 6-2 victory, while Anna Catharine Feaster got back on the winning track with a three-set triumph at No. 1 (6-2, 0-6, 6-2) to give her a 7-4 record as well.
Davidson took the doubles point to start the match with wins of 6-2 and 6-3 at No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively. The duo of Megan Scholvinck and Armas won their fifth match at the top spot.
The two doubles wins pushed the 'Cats team mark to 22-7 on the year, fueled by the team-leading 10 wins by Todd and Abele.
Davidson returns home this weekend for an 11 a.m. Atlantic 10 match against Saint Joseph's Sunday, March 12.
