ROCK HILL, S.C.  —
Despite winning the battle in shots and draw controls, Davidson was unable to overcome a slow start offensively and fell 10-5 on the road Sunday afternoon to host Winthrop at Eagle Field in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.

The Wildcats fell to 2-4 overall and 2-2 all-time vs. the Eagles, who moved to 3-5 on the season.

Though they allowed just four goals in the first half, the 'Cats were only able to muster a Shayne Antolini score off an assist from Annie Brockett at the 18:16 mark.

Davidson, which outshot Winthrop 25-16, did get within 6-4 in the second half, but Winthrop pulled away with four straight goals over a 10-minute span starting midway through the half to go up 10-4 and eventually took the win.

Brockett had a solid day, picking up three points on two goals, her team-leading 17th and 18th, while adding the assist in the first half. She also picked up one groundball, one draw control and forced a turnover.

Antolini added an assist to her goal, while Sarah Kopp scored her third goal of the season. Kendall Thielemann picked up her team-best eighth assist.

Winthrop had two players with multiple goals, led by Nicole Beatson with four and she added two assists for a game-high six points. Kristen Shriver had four points on three goals and an assist. Ellie Marindin added two assists.

Coming out of the break to start the second half, Kopp and Brockett scored goals with 26:39 and 24:44 on the clock to make it 4-3. Winthorp answered though with two of its own goals a few minutes later before Christine Molinari netted her fifth goal of the season to make it 6-4.

Davidson's final score came at the 3:10 mark off the stick of Brockett to make it 10-5.

The Eagles held a 22-18 edge on groundballs and went a perfect 4-of-4 on free-position shots, while the 'Cats won the draw control battle at 9-8 and were successful on 17 of their 18 clear attempts.

Defensively, Rose Woolson was credited with four saves in goal and two groundballs. Maddie Hunter had a nice day, registering season highs of four groundballs and four caused turnovers. Mackenzie Sivilli also was solid, forcing a season-high tying three turnovers and adding two groundballs.

Davidson continues its three-game road trip with its final non-conference game at Elon next Sunday, March 26, at 2 pm.
