ORLANDO, Fla. —  Davidson kept within striking distance all afternoon, but was never able to break through and dropped a 62-54 game at UCF Thursday afternoon in women's basketball action inside CFE Arena.

The Wildcats (5-8), playing their final non-conference game of the season, saw their two-game win streak halted, while the Knights moved to 8-5 by winning their fourth in the last five games.

UCF held a lead for all but 20 seconds of the game and sealed up the win by hitting 10-of-14 free throws in the final minute.

Justine Lyon led three 'Cats in double digits with 13 points, but was just 5-of-16 from the floor. Katie Turner and Kianna Speight (season high) chipped in 10 points each, while Kyla Roland hauled in a season-high 10 rebounds off the bench.

For UCF, Aliyah Gregory led three double-figure scorers with a game-high 15 points. Kayla Thigpen scored 11 off the bench and Korneila Wright added 10, while Nyala Shuler pulled in 11 rebounds.

A Lyon three-point play with 2:12 remaining in the fourth quarter got the Wildcats within four at 49-45, but UCF answered with a three-pointer on the other end during its next possession and would push the lead out to 10, 56-46.

One last push by the 'Cats got them within 59-54 after Speight swished home two free throws and 9.7 ticks left. UCF then hit three free throws to close out the game.

Davidson trailed 10-0 in the first four minutes of the game, but worked its way back and ended the first quarter down just 14-10.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats continued to play from behind until a Lyon fast-break bucket tied the score up at 22-all with 1:42 to go. The 'Cats' defense held the Knights to just five free throws during a six-minute stretch to assist in tying the game. UCF though answered, scoring the final six points to go up 28-22 at the half.

Atlantic 10 play begins next, Davidson will open at George Mason on New Year's Eve at 2 p.m.
