DAVIDSON, N.C. — The 2017-18 season gets underway for the Davidson women's basketball team, as they will open up with games at Western Carolina and N.C. State this Friday and Sunday.
The Wildcats (0-0, 0-0 A-10), in their first year under the direction of Gayle Coats Fulks, begin the season on a four-game road trip. They play Friday night against WCU at 7 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. contest Sunday afternoon against the Wolfpack. Later, Davidson will travel to Furman, Nov. 15, and Appalachian State, Nov. 19, to conclude the long trip.

•Sarah Donovan had game highs of 19 points and eight rebounds to pace four scorers in double figures, and Davidson captured an 81-69 exhibition home win over Johnson C. Smith last Friday.
•Katie Turner, Justine Lyon and Kianna Speight each scored 12 points. Speight nailed 4-of-5 shots from downtown, while Turner filled the box score with a game-high six dimes.
•Davidson led by as many as 16 points before JCSU cut its lead to five, 70-65, midway through the fourth quarter. The Wildcats put the game away by going on an 11-4 run in the final five minutes.
•As a team, the Wildcats went 20-for-24 at the charity stripe and had a 40-24 edge on the glass.
Season Openers ...
•During the Wildcats' 38-year history, they have gone 10-28 in season-openers after opening the 2016-17 campaign on the road at No. 22 Michigan State, Nov. 11.
•Since the program was restarted in 1992-93, they have gone 8-17 and played some pretty tough competition, facing top programs in North Carolina (three times), Duke, Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Michigan State (twice), Boston College, Arkansas-Little Rock and Clemson (twice).
•During that time period ('92-93), Davidson has opened on the road or at a neutral site 22 times with a 7-15 record in those games.
Wildcat All-Time Record Watch ...
•Mackenzie Latt is or will be ranked in the top-15 all-time in the record books before she finishes out her career. Last year, the junior became the 19th Wildcat to reach 1,000 points and currently sits in 11th with 1,143.
•She already ranks in the top-15 in career scoring average (8th, 13.1), blocks (10th, 76), field goals made (9th, 490) and attempted (9th, 1,088), and rebounds (9th, 630).
Random Notes ...
•Justine Lyon was named the A-10 Most Improved Player in 2016-17.
•Lyon earned Davidson's first-ever A-10 Player of the Week honor last year.
•Lyon twice reached 30 points last season, including a career-high 34 at UMass, Feb. 4.
•Lyon registered all nine of her career 20-point games last year, four times hitting 22 points.
•The nine 20-point games by Lyon was the most in a Wildcat season since Lauren Murray had 16 in 2013-14.
•Mackenzie Latt has scored in double figures in 64 of her 87 career games.

•Davidson and WCU are playing for the 54th time in the all-time series, with the Wildcats holding a 28-25 lead and riding a nine-game win streak. Overall, the 'Cats have won 12 of the last 14 games.
•In the last meeting, Dec, 5, 2015, Davidson scored a 64-51 win at home behind Mackenzie Latt's 19 points and Hannah Early's double-double (20 points, 15 rebounds).
•The series has the Wolfpack leading 6-1 and riding a six-game win streak against Davidson.
•This will be the fourth time in the past five years, all in Raleigh, both teams are playing each other.

•The Catamounts open the season with a three-game homestand against Davidson, UNC Asheville and Eastern Kentucky.
•Raziyah Farrington and Sherae Bonner were the top-two scorers, averaing 10.3 and 10.1, respectively, last year.
•Bonner, a third-team all-SoCon, hauled in a team-high 8.8 rebounds and blocked 41 shots.
