Davidson Has Strong Showing at Wake Forest Invitational

DAVIDSON, N.C. The Davidson women's tennis opened their Fall season by playing at the Wake Forest Invitational, Oct. 6-8, and several Wildcats had strong showings over the weekend.
Davidson took home one doubles title and one singles title, while winning four consolation brackets. Nine players participated in singles action and the 'Cats had four doubles teams compete.
In singles play, Alexandra Abele won the D1 singles bracket by rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Jordyn King of Western Carolina. To get there, the sophomore tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win in the first round before pulling out a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 decision against East Carolina.
Anna Catharine Feaster, Gabrielle Centenari and Alyssa Hahn each won their consolation brackets. The senior Feaster took home a win of 6-2, 6-1 and then downed Abbie Pahz of Louisville in a thriller, 6-3, 5-7, 12-10. Her first round match went down to the wire as well, dropping a pair of close tie-breakers, 7-4 and 13-11, against Wake Forest's Chandler Carter.
At C1 singles, Centenari scored wins of 7-6(12), 5-7, 10-6 vs. Haily Morgan of Wright State and 7-5, 7-5 against William & Mary.
The freshman Hahn, in her first college Fall event, nailed down victories of 6-2, 7-5 over Elon and 6-3, 7-5 against East Carolina's Sarah Sarjoo.
Fellow class match Lindsay Song reached the final match of the D2 singles bracket. She won a pair of three-setters by the scores of 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 vs. Marshall and 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 against Appalachian State. The first-year players run ended though with a 6-1, 7-5 defeat to Lexi Franco of host Wake Forest.
Ally Sexton won a consolation match (6-4, 6-4), while Megan Scholvinck, Ava Todd and Samantha Armas also participated in singles play.
Sexton teamed with Song at the C doubles bracket after earning 8-3 and 8-6 decision against Elon and WCU in the first two roads. They reached the final with an 8-5 decision over Richmond and took home the doubles title with a strong 8-2 victory against a pair from Kansas State.
In the A doubles bracket, Feaster and Armas reached the final after two thrilling 8-7 wins against Virginia and Winthrop.
Scholvinck and Abele competed in the B doubles bracket and made the semifinals. They had an 8-4 win against William & Mary and then an 8-3 decision against JMU before falling 8-4 to a team from Kansas State.
The 'Cats' final doubles team of Todd and Centenari won two consolation matches by scoring a pair of 7-4 tie-breaker wins.
Davidson heads next to the Charlotte Invitational, Oct. 13-15.
