DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson (8-9, 1-3 A-10) fell, 3-2, to visiting La Salle (10-10, 1-5 A-10) in Belk Arena by scores of 17-25, 25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9, in A-10 volleyball action Friday.
A quartet of solid performances led the 'Cats; sophomore Elise Edman recorded a new career-best 27 digs, breaking her old record of 25, set last season at La Salle. Junior Ciera Cockrell tied a career-best with a team-high 15 kills. Cockrell also recorded 15 slams against Georgia earlier this season. Classmate Mason Rooney registered 10 kills, 26 assists, and 13 digs, bringing her triple-double count to three on the season, tying her for first in the nation in that category. The 'Cats registered 18 blocks in the contest, led by senior Mary Harriet Moore's career-high 10 (two solo, eight assisted).
After a sluggish start in the opening stanza, Davidson clawed back to take Sets 2 and 3. The Explorers came out firing in the fourth frame, leading by as many as eight points before the 'Cats tied the score at 18-18 after taking seven straight, including three kills from junior Katharine Franz in that time span. La Salle regrouped to take Set 4, and kept the momentum intact to steal the match after winning the finale.
The Wildcats will wrap up their five-game homestand Sunday, welcoming Duquesne for a 1:00 p.m. showdown.
