DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson volleyball suffered a Sunday sweep to Duquesne in Belk Arena to wrap up their five-game home stand, falling 25-18, 25-22, 25-20. The Wildcats slip to 8-10 (1-4 A-10) on the year, while the Dukes improve to 8-12 (3-3 A-10).
Junior Katharine Franz paced the offense, tallying nine kills, while freshman Remi Lehnertz added eight.
"Our effort and energy was much better today than it has been," head coach Chris Willis said. "In the end, execution at a high level is what's going to win matches, and that's something that this group will continue to improve on."
The 'Cats never led during the opening stanza, but after falling behind by as many as six points in the second frame, Davidson clawed back into the set thanks to kills from Franz and Lehnertz and back-to-back aces from sophomore Emily Kane to tie it 20-20. After three errors in the last four points, the 'Cats dropped Set 2.
The third installment was a game of back-and-forth, drawing 10 tied scores and four lead changes. After back-to-back attack errors from the 'Cats, the Dukes stole the momentum, taking the next four points to secure the set and match.
Davidson heads out on the road next weekend, traveling to George Mason Friday before facing George Washington Saturday.
