Men's Swimming Victorious in Georgetown Dual

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- In dual meet action Saturday, the men's swimming and diving team downed visiting Georgetown 176-123, while the women were defeated by the Hoyas 172-120, in Cannon Natatorium.
The Wildcats combined for 44 Top 3 finishes, including three event sweeps. The women recorded 19, while the men placed 25.
Both teams will next head on the road, traveling to Washington, D.C., for a matchup against league-foe George Washington.
WOMEN
The women were led by five event victories, including both the 400 and 200 freestyle relays. In the 400, sophomore Alexis LeMone teamed up with senior Sarah Coats, classmate Isabella McElrath, and freshman Anna Linzell for a 3:55 flat clip, while the trio of LeMone, Coats, and Linzell were joined by another sophomore, this time Olivia Stanley, for the top spot in the 200 (1:39.71).
LeMone and Coats each turned in an individual gold- LeMone in the 100 free (54.77) and Coats in the 100 breast (1:05.92). Junior Emily Yang also brought in a first-place finish, registering a 2:12.80 time in the 200 IM.
Other notable performances from the women include Linzell and Stanley tying for second in the 50 free (25.10), McElrath taking second in the 200 fly and third in the 200 breast and 200 IM (2:10.70, 2:24.93, 2:16.09), and Coats being narrowly out-touched for second in the 200 breast (2:24.79). Yang and Stanley each added a third place (200 fly (2:10.96), 100 fly (59.71)), and freshman Sarah Helen Shepherd delivered a strong performance, collecting seconds in both the 100 back and 200 IM (1:00.12) (2:13.48) and a third in the 200 back (2:09.28).
Senior Elizabeth Weldon and sophomore Frances Resweber also placed, each finishing in third. (1000 Free (10:48.37), 200 Free (1:58.98)).
MEN
The Wildcats recorded 25 Top 3 finishes on the men's side, where sophomore Crossan Cooper continued to impress, winning all three of his individual events. The former A-10 Rookie of the Week brought firsts home in the 1000 free, and 100 and 200 breast (9:44.19, 59.02, 2:08.13). The senior duo of Clay Resweber and Taylor Willenbring each took first in both of their events, giving the 'Cats the first-place sweep of the freestyle events. (Resweber: 200, 500 Free (1:41.24, 4:43.38) (Willenbring: 50, 100 Free (21.38, 47.01)
In addition to both the 200 and 400 free relays taking the top prize, sophomore Alex Strasser also finished first in the 100 fly (51.16). The 400 relay consisted of Strasser, Willenbring, freshman Kevin Andrews and senior Riley League, while the 200 was a fleet of Willenbring, Andrews, Resweber, and senior Ari Snyder.
Sophomore Brian Hynes took second in both the backstroke events (52.94, 1:55.74), joined in the silver column by a trio of veterans in League (200 fly; 1:57.94), Cole Riggan (500 free; 4:46.83), and Trey Harris (100 fly; 52.83). Sophomores Ian Hentenaar and Patrick Kelly also brought in a second-place in the 1000 free (9:58.36) and the 200 IM (1:58.63), respectively.
Rookie Mitchell Stanek added to the tally, recording a second in the 200 breast (2:12.43) and third in the 1000 free (9:59.23). Riggan also came in third in the 200 free (1:44.04), while Andrews clocked in at 53.05 for third in the 100 back and Snyder bronzed in the sprints (21.96, 48.10).
Freshman Will Tabor also collected a third-place spot, clocking in at 1:58.42 in the 200 fly.
