BRONX, N.Y. -- A consecutive 12-set winning streak against league-foe Fordham was snapped Sunday, as Davidson volleyball fell in five sets by scores of 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-25, 6-15.
Junior Mason Rooney turned in her second-straight double double, posting 10 kills and adding 22 assists. Sophomore Emma McLaughlin delivered a career-best performance, tallying nine kills. Junior Ciera Cockrell also posted nine slams.
Despite 10 tied scores, the Rams used three separate rallies in the opening stanza to break the set streak, taking the frame 17-25. Davidson used their own rally, taking six straight points in the second set, to gain momentum and maintain the lead to take the frame 25-23.
Even at one set each, the Wildcats kept control. The Rams presented a tricky slate, evening the score at 22 in Set 3 before a Fordham miscue and kills from Rooney and freshman Ellie Crosley sealed the set 25-23 and put Davidson ahead 2-1 in the match.
The 'Cats offense fell stagnant in the final two frames, providing Fordham with the ability to take the match 3-2.
The Wildcats return home Friday and Sunday, welcoming Saint Louis and Dayton for a conference weekend clash.
