DAVIDSON, N.C. — Sunday marked the final day of the Davidson men's tennis' own invitational, as the Wildcats played both singles and doubles.
In doubles action, the pair of Artem Khrapko and Matthew Rose took home a 6-2 win at No. 2 over a team from UNC Asheville to finish the weekend with 18 points.
At No. 3 doubles, Axel Fries and Yash Parikh nailed down a 6-3 decision to give them four points on the day.
The freshmen tandem of Alexander Loope and Kevin Huang won their lone doubles match together with a strong 6-1 victory at No. 4 to earn two points.
Two Wildcats won singles matches on the day vs. the Bulldogs of UNCA. Khrapko made it a perfect day with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 for 12 points on the weekend.
Camden Mazzoni won his first singles match of the weekend with a straight-set 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 7.
Narrowly missing singles wins on the day was Fries (No. 2, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5), Thomas Mason (No. 4, 4-6, 6-1, 10-4) and Rose (No. 6, 6-1, 0-6, 10-4) who each went to a super tie-breaker after splitting their first two sets.
The invitational was a points system, with points being determined based on position. The No. 1 singles position was worth 16 points and going two points down at each position to No. 8, which was worth two points. The top doubles spot was worth eight points, then going down to No. 4, which was worth two.
Davidson heads down the road to Queens University to play in the Queens Invitational next weekend, Oct. 6-8.
