NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the sixth time in as many meets, Davidson senior swimmer Elise Lankiewicz has been named the Atlantic 10's Women's Performer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. She has now tied an A-10 record for the most weekly honors in a single season, claiming six this year and the eleventh of her career in just three seasons with the league.
The Wilmington, Del., native capped off the final dual meet of her storied career with three firsts and a second, as well as two additional seconds in a pair of relays. Her wins helped propel the women to two wins on the weekend, as the Wildcats downed Gardner-Webb and Georgia Southern. Lankiewicz took the top spot in the 200 freestyle, touching in four seconds ahead of the next competitor. She followed that up with wins in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly. In both races, she was at least two seconds ahead of the next-best finisher.
Her second place came in the 100 backstroke, where she was just half a stroke away from an unblemished record. She also swam the leadoff leg of the 400 free relay that took second, and the second portion of the 200 free relay, where they were just out-touched for the top mark.
The senior ranks in the Top 10 in the A-10 in every event she has swam this season, including the best times in five different categories and has broken four school records this season.
Lankiewicz ties Fordham's Brienne Ryan for six weekly titles in a single year, and now has the fourth most honors for her career.
The two-time A-10 Performer of the Year and the rest of the Wildcats head to Geneva, Ohio, in early-February for the league championships.
