DAVIDSON, N.C. — Capping off a three-match homestand to start the season, Davidson cruised to a 7-0 win over visiting Gardner-Webb Wednesday on the tennis courts inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats went 2-1 on its homestand, getting wins against Big South foes Winthrop and the Runnin Bulldogs.

"Our guys fought through a tough doubles point," said head coach Drew Barrett. "They showed a lot of composure and carried that over to singles. We took another good step today."

For the second time this year Davidson started off by winning the doubles point. It took a 6-2 decision at No. 2 by the team of Shamael Chaudhry and Jack Riazzi, who moved to 2-1 on the year. Closing out the point was the top team of J.B. Gough and Axel Fries with their second win of the year behind a 6-4 decision.

Three of the four Wildcats went on to score wins in singles action to help seal up the team victory. Chaudhry tallied a nice 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 1, while J.B. Gough and Axel Fries captured wins of 6-1, 6-4 and 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4 and 5 positions, respectively.

Junior David Hager remained perfect at 3-0 on the season after he won a super tie-breaker, 15-13. He split with his Gardner-Webb opponent in the first two sets, 4-6, 6-4, at No. 2.

Artem Khrapko and Jordan Hart rounded out the winners on the day. At No. 3, Khrapko cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 decision, while Hart won a solid 6-2, 6-4 match at No. 6.

Davidson plays its first road match as well as opens Atlantic 10 play this weekend when it plays at Fordham Saturday.
