DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson swimming and diving made its long awaited return to Cannon Natatorium, recording 11 first-place finishes but fell in dual meet action to UNC Wilmington Friday afternoon. The women fell by a 162-138 score as the men dropped a 177-121 mark.
Senior Elise Lankiewicz, a three-time Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, and junior Clay Resweber each turned in two firsts to lead the Wildcats. Lankiewicz registered the top marks in both the 200 (1:50.04) and 500 (4:56.11) freestyle events for the women, while Resweber did the same on the men's side (200- 1:42.62, 500- 4:44.11).
Also donning the top spots for the women were junior Leah Hubert in the 1,000 free (10:43.23), senior Katy Williams in the 200 breast (2:21.82, a new season-best), and sophomore Maggie Farrell in the 100 fly (58.22).
On the men's side, freshman Crossan Cooper, former A-10 Rookie of the Week, turned in another strong performance, clocking in first in the 1,000 free (9:42.87) and was joined by junior Taylor Willenbring, who touched out in a narrow, 47.34 first-place mark in the 100 free.
The women polished off their ledger with two relay firsts, as sophomore Anabelle Durham and a trio of seniors in Williams, Lankiewicz, and Erica Clancy, turned in a new team season-best in the 200 medley relay (1:46.58), while the quartet of Farrell, Clancy, senior Kassie Shannon, and Lankiewicz recorded a 3:31.75 clip in the 400 free relay.
Davidson turned in 12 second-place finishes and 21 thirds to wrap up a solid day in the water.
The Wildcats return to the pool next weekend, facing William & Mary in another dual, slated for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21.
