DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson College mourns the loss of former men's basketball standout Bill Jarman '63, who passed away Thursday, May 13.
"As a Davidson player, Bill was known for maximizing his talent and emptying his tank every time he stepped on the court," said head coach Bob McKillop. "He was a great teammate to all. His life after basketball was a clear reflection of that. He was a terrific orthopedic doctor and a pillar of the Gastonia community. He will be greatly missed by all the Wildcat faithful who knew and loved him."
A 6-5 center from nearby Gastonia, N.C., Jarman played for Lefty Driesell from 1960-63.
One of the most prolific scorers and rebounders in school history, Jarman averaged 17.8 points and 10.1 rebounds, while earning all-conference honors in 1962 and 1963. He also earned all-tournament recognition as a senior.
Jarman, who helped the Wildcats to their first-ever 20-win season in 1962-63, ranks 22nd on Davidson's all-time scoring list and seventh in career rebounds.
