DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson head men's basketball coach Bob McKillop announced Wednesday that Jack Gibbs, Peyton Aldridge, Will Magarity and Rusty Reigel will serve as team captains for the 2016-17 season.
"Leadership is always a vital component of a team's success," said McKillop. "I am thrilled that Jack, Will, Peyton and Rusty will have that responsibility. I am optimistic that they will set the tone for our team by first leading themselves, which will then serve as a catalyst to lead the entire team."
A two-time all-conference performer, Gibbs finished 2015-16 ranked fifth nationally in scoring at 23.5 points per game.
Aldridge led the team in rebounding (6.5) and was second in scoring (15.5), while Reigel earned a spot in the starting lineup midway through the season.
A transfer from Boston College, Magarity has two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out this past season due to NCAA rules.
Both Gibbs and Aldridge along with Brian Sullivan were team captains in 2015-16.
Coming off their fifth straight 20-win campaign and 10th in the last 12 years, the Wildcats have advanced to postseason play 11 of the last 12 seasons (6 – NCAA, 4 – NIT, 1 – CBI).
In addition, Davidson has posted a 24-12 record in Atlantic 10 play since joining the league in 2014.
