DAVIDSON, N.C. – Eight different Wildcat players scored goals, as the Davidson lacrosse team toppled VCU by a score of 19-9 Friday night at Richardson Stadium.
Davidson, which improved to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in Atlantic 10 play, outshot VCU (3-10, 1-4), 32-18, and owned the edge in draw controls (19-11) and ground balls (22-14).
Emma Sissman paced the offense, tallying four goals and two assists, while Lucy Sexton, Annie Brockett and Jean Atkinson each added three scores apiece.
Nicole Pettiglio and Christine Molinari added two goals each, while Sarah Kopp and Lindsay Rufolo rounded out the Wildcats' scoring contingency with single-goal performances.
VCU's Molly Barcikowski opened the scoring at 28:50 for the Rams, before the Wildcats responded with five straight goals to take a 5-1 lead with 22:48 to go in the half.
Three consecutive goals from VCU brought the Rams within one, 5-4, midway through the frame. Brockett and Sissman gave the 'Cats their final two goals of the half to give Davidson a 7-4 advantage.
In the second, the Wildcats continued to control play, scoring four goals in the first 12 minutes of the frame, stretching their lead to 10-5.
Davidson found the back of the net four straight times in a five-minute span to take a commanding 16-7 lead before VCU's Barcikowski responded with two goals of her own with 4:35 left in the game.
Davidson closed out the half with three goals from Rufolo, Sissman and Molinari to solidify the win, 19-9.
In net, Rose Woolson registered three saves, while Dana Stasieluk stopped a shot.
Davidson returns to action Sunday as it hosts Richmond at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, the Wildcats will honor its six graduating seniors.
