DAVIDSON, N.C. — After a 12-day break, the Davidson women's lacrosse team gears up for Atlantic 10 play this weekend when it hosts La Salle and Saint Joseph's Friday and Sunday at Richardson Stadium.
The Opening Draw Control...
Davidson (3-4, 0-0 A-10), off since hosting Elon, March 19, will welcome A-10 foes La Salle (2-5, 0-0 A-10) and Saint Joseph's (1-7, 0-0 A-10) this Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Saint Joseph's plays UMass Friday night before heading to North Carolina for Sunday's game.
The 'Cats are currenlty on a seven-game homestand, which started Feb. 28 vs. Winthrop and is the longest since a six-game stretch at the beginning of the 2012 season.
This is its second year in the Atlantic 10 for Davidson after going 3-5 last year to finish in seventh place. This season the league will advance the top six teams to the conference championship tournament, which is May 4-8 in Pittsburgh, Pa., where it will be hosted by Duquesne.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting...
The series is just two games old vs. the Explorers of La Salle, dating back to 2011. Davidson has dropped both contests. Last year on the road, the 'Cats fell by a single goal, 8-7, despite Emma Sissman and Lucy Sexton having two goals and an assist each. It was their third one-goal defeat to a league opponent. La Salle score goals at the 11:57 mark and later at nine minutes to break a 6-all tie and hold on for the win.
Davidson is 1-2 all-time vs. the Hawks of Saint Joseph's. The two schools first met back in 1994, the Wildcats' first-ever lacrosse opponent in their inaugural season. In last year's meeting at home, they netted their first win in the series with a 13-10 decision. Nicole Pettiglio scored a career-high four goals and Davidson used a 5-0 run in the second half to break up a close game. Down 9-8 with over 23 minutes left in the second half, senior Catherine Schmidt sparked a game-changing 5-0 spurt with back-to-back scores nearly 30 seconds apart to help the Wildcats take a commanding 13-9 advantage.
