DAVIDSON, N.C.  — In a defensive, slow paced game, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks scored a pair of goals 19 seconds apart to break up a close game and Davidson saw its two-game winning streak come to an end with a 7-5 setback Tuesday evening inside Richardson Stadium in women's lacrosse.

The Wildcats missed out on some late game opportunities to either tie the game or win it, falling to 3-3 on the season. Lehigh won its fifth straight after opening the year with a loss at nationally-ranked Penn State to move to 5-1.

Five different 'Cats scored single goals on the night, while Jean Atkinson picked up an assist.

Courtney Henig found the back of the net three times, while Haley Wentzel scored twice to give Lehigh two multiple goal scorers. Allison LaBeau dished out two assists.

Morgan Burch had brought Davidson to within one goal (5-4) on her fifth score of the season at 20:48 in the second half. But, six minutes later the Mountain Hawks struck for two quick goals off the sticks of Jane Henderson and Henig with 14:37 and 14:18 on the clock to open up a 7-4 lead. LaBeau set up both goals.

Nicole Pettiglio netted her fifth goal of on the year on a free-position attempt to make it 7-5 with 4:24 left. Davidson would then get the ensuing draw control thanks to freshman Sarah Kopp and looked to close the gap. The Wildcats got off four shots, including a free-position attempt, but they miss fired on each one and were not able to capitalize.

Davidson got the ball back with 49 ticks left after Lehigh failed on its clear attempt, but time ran out before it could get another shot off.

Lehigh held a 4-3 halftime lead, breaking up a 3-all tie after a goal with just six seconds left in the first half.

Emma Sissman recorded her team-leading 14th goal off a pass from Atkinson to give the 'Cats a brief 3-2 lead. The Mountain Hawks answered with a goal less than 30 seconds later by Haley Wentzel, who also scored the final goal of the half.

Paige Farrar and Annie Brockett gave Davidson an early 2-1 lead in the first half with back-to-back scores.

Like the score, it was close across the board on the stat sheet. Davidson had a 17-14 edge on shots, while Lehigh picked up a 16-14 edge on groundballs. Both teams pulled in seven draw controls, while combining to force 10 of the 29 total turnovers.

Goalie Rose Woolson finished with six saves and two groundballs the 'Cats, while defender Holly Thomas registered three groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers. Lehigh's Taylor Tvedt earned four saves in goal.

The Wildcats will play host to Elon this weekend with a 2 p.m. game Saturday, March 19.
