Davidson Begins 7-Game Homestand Sunday vs. Winthrop

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off its first win of the season last weekend in Kennesaw, Ga., Davidson returns home to begin a seven-game homestand, starting this Sunday vs. Winthrop inside Richardson Stadium.
The Opening Draw Control...
Davidson (1-1, 0-0 A-10), which is winners of 10 of its past 15 contests at home dating back to 2014, plays Winthrop (2-0) at 12 p.m. Sunday. It's the third time in the past four years the two teams will be facing each other.
The Eagles have a busy weekend, playing host to Cincinnati Friday afternoon before coming to Davidson Sunday. They then turn around that same day and will play host to Saint Francis at 6 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting...
The series is just two games old as Winthrop recently just started their lacrosse program. Davidson has won both meetings, including the last matchup which came in 2014. The Wildcats needed overtime to pull out a 9-8 thrilling victory.
Record Watch...
Emma Sissman moved up to seventh all-time in career goals after a four-goal outing to opening the season against Virginia Tech. She currently has 106 goals and needs 15 more to pass Haley Cook (2007-10) for sixth. In addition, Sissman is nine points away from moving into the top-10 all-time, passing Erin Doherty who has 127 career points.
The senior is already the all-time leader for draw controls, reaching the 200-mark in a victory at Kennesaw State, Feb. 20. She currently has an even 200 draw
controls.
Fellow senior Holly Thomas is 15 caused turnovers away from reaching the top-10 all-time as she has 35 for her career.
Last Time Out...
DAVIDSON — Davidson raced out to a 7-1 lead in the first 16 minutes of play and went on to pick up its first win of the season with a 19-6 victory at Kennesaw State Saturday, Feb. 20.
Seven different Wildcats scored during the opening run, sparked by freshman Charley Orner's second career goal at the 29:17 mark. Morgan Burch and Lucy Sexton each added an assist to go with their goals during the run.
In all, nine players scored on the day. For the second game in a row, Emma Sissman paced the offense, tallying five goals to give her nine in the first two games of the season.
Nicole Pettiglio, Sarah Kopp and Burch each registered three goals, while Burch finished with four points overall. Christine Molinari added another three assists to give her eight in the first two games of the year, while adding a goal.
Last Time Out..
WINTHROP —  Logan McCarthy and Shannon Gallagher each tallied four goals Sunday, Feb. 21, as the Winthrop lacrosse team scored a 15-5 victory over the Furman Paladins, improving to 2-0 for the first time in program history.
McCarthy netted her four goals on five shots, going 2-for-2 on free-position attempts and also added one assist. Gallagher was perfect, scoring four goals on four shots.
Winthrop got off to a strong start behind two goals from Gallagher and one tally from Clark giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the first half. It went into the break up 8-3 and would put the game away by tallying the first four goals of the second half.
