Davidson Drops Final Road Game at Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Playing its final regular season road game, Davidson was unable to overcome a slow start and dropped an 87-54 decision at Saint Joseph's Wednesday evening in Hagan Arena during Atlantic 10 women's basketball.
Davidson fell to 11-17 overall and 5-10 in league play, while the Hawks won their second in a row to improve to 13-14 and 7-8 in A-10 action.
The Hawks put four players in double digits, led by Chelsea Woods' game-high 23 points. Kathlee Fitzpatrick followed with 12 points, all coming in the first half and from behind the arc, while Sarah Veilleux and Sarah Fairbanks had 10 each.
Kianna Speight and Diona Johnson shared the team high honors for the 'Cats, netting 11 points apiece off the bench. Davidson tied a season-high with 27 bench points.
Mackenzie Latt kept her double-figure scoring streak alive with 10 points, pushing the streak to 12 games in a row.
The Wildcats were held to just five points through the first seven minutes of the opening quarter. Saint Joseph's took control of the game early, going on a 17-2 run to erase Davidson's 5-2 lead after a Latt jumper with 7:46 on the clock.
Hannah Early (8 points, 5 rebounds) swished home a three-ball at the buzzer to cut the Hawks' lead to 21-10 to finish the quarter.
The Hawks would continue to push its lead out, going up by 22 (40-18) before heading into the break up 44-23. Woods (13) and Fitzpatrick (12) combined for 25 of the first-half points.
Davidson, which got no closer than 46-26 on a Dukes' free throw at the 8:42 mark in the third quarter, finished the game shooting just 29.7 percent, despite swishing home 7-of-15 three-pointers on the evening.
Saint Joseph's hit 46.8 percent of its shots and won the rebound battle, 49-30, getting 16 on the offensive end. It also swished home 22-of-27 free-throw attempts and dished out 19 assists.
Davidson wraps up the regular season with its Senior Day game Saturday at home vs. VCU at 2 p.m.
GAME NOTES: This was just the third meeting all-time between the two schools, with SJU having won all three games … Davidson dished out 11 assists, making it 14 straight games with double-digit assists … Latt has scored in double figures now in 31 of her past 36 games … Early moved into fifth place all-time in scoring with 1,376 points … Johnson's double-digit scoring game was her fifth of the season and sixth of her career … Speight hit a career-high three shots from downtown.
