NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the third time in as many meets, senior Elise Lankiewicz of Davidson swimming and diving has been named Atlantic 10 Women's Performer of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday.
Lankiewicz posted an outstanding resume this past weekend at the Total Performance Invitational in Gambier, Ohio. She set four new school records, three new facility records, and two meet records. She finished the weekend with four firsts, a second, and a fourth, as well as a third, fourth, and fifth place in relays. Over the course of the three days, Lankiewicz registered five top times in the league and five NCAA 'B Standard' qualifying clips.
She started Day 1 by breaking her own program record in the 1,650 freestyle, with a 'B Standard' time of 16:29.13, setting a new pool record and recording the top time in the A-10 this season.
On the second day of competition, Lankiewicz picked up another first-place title, cruising to victory in the 100 back with the top mark in the league this season (55.16), breaking her own record set in 2014. She followed that up with a second place in the 200 freestyle, clocking in with the league's best time of the season (1:47.56), a 'B Standard' qualifier. She finished the day coming in fourth in the 50 free (23.39) and recording the fourth-best time in the A-10 of the 2016-17 campaign.
The two-time A-10 Performer of the Year continued to dominate in the water on the final day, setting a new season-and-league-best, as well as a meet and facility record, in the 500 free during the preliminaries with a 'B Standard' time of 4:47.47. She went on to break the school, meet, and facility record in the 100 fly, sprinting to a 53.52 clip, yet another 'B Standard' time and top mark in the league this season. She concluded her impressive weekend with a first-place finish in the 100 free, clocking in with the second-best performance in the league this year (49.95), another 'B Standard' mark.
The honor marks the eighth weekly accolade of her career, after she took it twice last season and three times in 2014-15. She and the rest of the Wildcats return to the pool next year, facing UNCW in dual-meet action on January 13 at Cannon Natatorium.
