DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson football team dropped the season finale to Morehead State Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium in Pioneer Football League action, 31-10.

The Wildcats end the season 2-9 overall, while MSU ends the campaign 4-7.

Despite keeping pace with the Eagles in the first half in terms of yardage gained, 185 for MSU and 164 for Davidson, the Wildcats fell behind on the scoreboard, 17-3, after one half of action. Junior kicker Trevor Smith's 25-yard field goal was all the 'Cats had to show for the first half efforts.

Out of the break, the third quarter woes for the Wildcats continued as MSU punched two more scores into the end zone to extend the lead, 31-3.

The Wildcats gained some momentum propelled by a 37-yard Stockton McGuire scoring scamper to cut the deficit to three possessions. Early in the final frame with Morehead State threatening on the goal line, quarterback Lawson Page, in on red zone wildcat formations, lost the ball, recovered by Davidson senior linebacker James Gessner in the end zone.

On the next play, McGuire completed a pass to a wide open Isaiah Anthony into MSU territory, a 39-yard completion for the 'Cats longest play of the of the day. Davidson got into the red zone, but were unable to capitalize late and the Eagles gained enough first downs to kneel on the 2016 season.

McGuire completed 11-of-27 passes for 99 yards and led the team in rushing with 116 yards off 21 carries. Sophomore Kahleel Shaw netted 122 return yards on the day.

Three Wildcats registered seven tackles led by Thomas Sykes' six solo stops and one tackle for loss. Senior's Nate Casey and Jaylen Mize also finished with seven stops in their final game as a Wildcat.

Freshman Hunter Murphy came on late in the season and finished strong, recording six tackles, 2.5 for loss and a sack. Davidson got to Austin Gahafer three times with Murphy, senior Will Barefoot and freshman George Hatalowich.

Senior punter John Cook finished off his career with another 200-yard punt day, pinning the Eagles inside the 20 on 2-of-6 kicks.
