Wrestling Hangs Tough In 23-12 Win Over Washington & Lee

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team hung tough in a 23-12 non-conference dual match against Washington and Lee Friday night at Belk Arena.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-1 overall in duals this season. The win is also the third consecutive heading into Sunday's tournament, the Wolfpack Open.
Down 9-0 after two bouts the Wildcats had work to do. Freshman 141-pounder Hunter Costa put Davidson on the board with a hard-fought, 3-2 decision. Sophomore Aidan Conroy followed it up with the first of two major decisions of the night in the 149-pound class. Conroy separated himself by 10 points, 11-1, to earn a much needed four points for Bobby Patneski's squad.
Sophomore Tony Palumbo and rookie Noah Satterfield each earned back-to-back decisions to give the 'Cats the lead, 13-9, with four bouts to go.
WLU's Alec Horne made it interesting at 174, picking up a decision to bring it back within one, 13-12, but the resilient Wildcats hung on. Junior's Konner Pritchard and Will Cooley notched decisions at 184 and 285 pounds, respectively, while junior Ryan Devlin battled for a major at 197 to seal the victory.
The Wildcats return to the mats Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Wolfpack Open hosted by N.C. State.
