Wrestling Competes At Wolfpack Open

RALEIGH, N.C. – Davidson wrestling competed at the Wolfpack Open hosted by N.C. State University Sunday.
Tony Palumbo had a first-round bye and came back to defeat an Appalachian State wrestler by way of decision, 5-3, in the 157-pound class. Palumbo suffered a 3-1 setback in the next round, but rolled through three opponents in the consolation brackets, knocking off two by way of decisions and the final in a fall that took 8:39 to finish. He was finally ousted in the semifinals with a 7-1 setback.
Billy McClelland started the day off for the 'Cats with a win at 141-pounds, earning a hard-fought 4-1 decision over an unattached opponent. The sophomore Waxhaw, N.C., fell in two falls to end his day.
Freshmen Noah Satterfield and Conor Fenn each pinned their first opponents. Fenn went on to the quarterfinals after picking up a 10-5 decision in the third round.
Davidson returns to the mats Saturday, Dec. 3 when they host both Appalachian State and Sacred Heart. First bout is slated for 11 a.m. from Belk Arena.
