NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After posting a clean sweep of individual events this past weekend at the Richmond Duals, senior standout Elise Lankiewicz has been named the Atlantic 10's Co-Performer of the Week.
The Wilmington, Del., native dominated in the water, totaling seven firsts and one second place (relay), facing off against league teams from George Mason, Duquesne, and Richmond.
The two-time Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer not only recorded the top times in the 100, 200, and 500 freestyle events on Friday, but returned to the pool on Saturday to defend her 200 and 500 free titles and also win the 200 butterfly. Lankiewicz's smallest margin of victory Friday was by a second in the 100; she finished nearly four and seven seconds ahead of her competition in the 200 and 500 events, respectively. Saturday, she defeated competitors by just as wide of margins, touching in more than five and 12 seconds ahead in both the 200 and 500 free.
The senior was joined by two classmates and a sophomore to finish first in the 400 free relay (3:21.24) on Friday, and the same two classmates and a freshman for a narrowly edged-out second place in her final event of the weekend, the 200 free relay (1:36.68), missing first by a mere three-tenths.
Lankiewicz has yet to lose an individual event this season, owning the top times in the conference in both the 200 and 500 free, the second-best mark in both the 100 free and 100 fly, and the third-best performance in the 200 fly.
A two-time A-10 All-Academic Team selection, Lankiewicz was named an All-American Scholar by the CSCAA (College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America) and holds ten school records and four in the league.
This marks the sixth weekly honor of her career, after earning the accolade two times last season and three times in 2014-15.
Lankiewicz looks to remain undefeated as the team next travels to Washington, D.C., to face off in a non-conference clash with Georgetown Saturday, Oct. 29.
