Wildcats Wrap up Own Tennis Invite Sunday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The third and final day of the Davidson Invitational came to an end Sunday with the Wildcats winning an impressive seven singles matches in straight sets against their Queens opponent to put an end to the weekend at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
With his strong 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles Sunday, junior Shamael Chaudhry finished the weekend with a team-high 48 combined points in both singles (32) and doubles (16). He teamed with J.B. Gough to go 2-2 in doubles, falling on their final day 6-4 to Queens' No. 1 team.
Gough was next on the team with a combined 46 points, getting 30 of those in singles play. He topped his weekend off with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 to go a perfect 3-0 against Campbell, UNC Asheville and Queens.
Fellow senior Jordan Hart earned a two-set victory in singles Sunday, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 to give him 18 points on the weekend with a perfect 3-0 mark. He added another 10 points in doubles after teaming with Thomas Mason at No. 3 doubles Sunday vs. Queens to net a 7-5 decision. The duo had earlier taken a 6-3 win vs. a pair from Gardner-Webb at No. 4 Friday.
Ricky Saad capped his nice weekend off with a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Queens' No. 5 singles player. The senior picked up 16 points in singles with a 2-1 record, while earning another 10 points in doubles. Saad and David Hager teamed up at No. 2 doubles on Sunday for a 6-2 win.
Junior Hager earned 12 singles points and 10 doubles points for 22 overall. Playing at No. 3 singles all weekend, he finished with a 7-6, 6-3 victory against his Queens opponent to give him is lone singles win.
At No. 2 singles, Artem Khrapko concluded the weekend with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph against Queens. The junior also earned eight points in doubles to give him 22 on the weekend.
The freshman pair of Matthew Rose and Mason played well in their first-ever Fall event. Rose had eight singles points with a pair of singles wins. Mason earned a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 7 singles vs. Queens to give him six points, while he earned a doubles win on the day with Hart. The first-year ended the weekend with eight doubles points.
The invitational was a points system, with points being determined based on position. The No. 1 singles position was worth 16 points and going two points down at each position to No. 8, which was worth two points. The top doubles spot was worth eight points, then going down to No. 4, which was worth two.
Davidson will next play in the USTA/ITA Regional Championship, Oct. 14-16, in Cary, N.C.
