Feaster Leads ‘Cats at Charlotte W. Tennis Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Junior Anna Catharine Feaster led the Davidson women's tennis team over the weekend at the Charlotte 49ers Invitational by sporting a perfect record in both singles and doubles during the two-day tournament at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
The invitational was a round-robin, "hidden dual" formatted event, with no individual winners or no team winners. Davidson took on Coastal Carolina, Wofford and host Charlotte during the two days.
Feaster led 10 Wildcats who competed over the weekend by going a combined 6-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She played a pair of super tie-breakers to determine two of her matches against Coastal Carolina and the 49ers. The junior netted a 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 triumph in the first match against CCU, then picked up a 10-7 super tie-breaker win vs. host Charlotte to down Tai Martin by the score of 3-6, 7-6(4), 10-7. Her other match over the weekend against Catherine Martin of Wofford was a straight-set 6-4, 6-1 victory.
In doubles action, the pair of Feaster and Ally Sexton rolled to 6-4, 6-0 and 6-3 decisions vs. Charlotte, Coastal Carolina and Wofford.
Sexton also competed in singles, earning a couple single set wins against Wofford's Emily Erickson (6-2) and Brooke Graham (6-4) at the No. 8 position.
Sporting 2-0 singles records on the weekend was Alexandra Abele (No. 3 & No. 4), Ava Todd (No. 4), Sarah Stein (No. 6) and Jenna Brunner (No. 7). The freshman Abele earned a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win against Wofford at No. 3 singles, then gave up only two games in a 6-2, 6-0 decision vs. Charlotte at No. 4.
Todd sealed wins against CCU's Natalie Wall (6-3, 7-5) and Wofford's Lauren Reid (6-4, 5-7, 10-8), while Stein earned straight set wins of 6-4, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 against her Wofford and Charlotte opponents.
The senior Brunner had strong wins of 6-2, 6-0 against Brooke Campbell of Coastal Carolina and then a 6-2, 6-4 decision against host Charlotte.
Playing at No. 5 singles, freshman Samantha Armas scored a couple of wins against Wofford (7-6, 7-5) and CCU (6-1, 7-6(5).
Gabrielle Centenari battled and held strong in all three of her matches at No. 2, playing three super tie-breakers to decide her matches. The sophomore lost a 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 decision to Coastal Carolina, but came back for 7-6, 3-6, 11-9 win against Wofford's Cassidy Hicks. Her last match against Charlotte was another down to the wire finish, falling 6-3, 2-6, 10-8.
Megan Scholvinck (at No. 3, def. CCU, 2-6, 6-1, 10-4) and Cassidy Shell (at No. 7, def. Wofford, 6-2, 6-0) each picked up one singles win to round out the Wildcats' singles players.
Joining Feaster and Sexton with a 3-0 doubles mark was the tandem of Brunner and Stein at No. 4. The pair gave up just two games in their three matches, cruising to 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0 wins against teams from Charlotte and two from Wofford.
The No. 2 and 3 doubles teams of Armas and Scholvinck, and Abele and Todd earned two wins each, while the Wildcats' No. 5 team of Centenari and Shell scored a 7-6(5) victory against Wofford.
Davidson will next head to the USTA/ITA Regional Championship, held in Chapel Hill, N.C., Oct. 20-24.
