Wildcats Set to Host Chattanooga Sunday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team will return to the friendly confines of Belk Arena with a Southern Conference matchup against Chattanoga Sunday. The Wildcats enter the weekend on a two-match winning streak and sit 4-9 overall and 0-1 in the SoCon. The Mocs head into the match 9-3 overall and 4-0 in league action.

Headlock on Hunger
Sunday's match against Chattanooga will be part of the SoCon's Headlock on Hunger initiative, which brings together the community to help provide meals for students who may not have enough to eat at home. Davidson will work hand in hand with the SoCon and Eblen Charities to collect canned food and donations prior to the match. The Wildcats will bring all the food collected to the SoCon Wrestling Championship held on the campus of the University of North Carolina-Asheville in March.
 
Last Time Out
Davidson won six bouts en route to a, 23-12, road victory at Belmont Abbey Jan. 19. The Crusaders opened the dual on fire, earning wins in the first three weights, before Davidson responded by taking the next six bouts to secure its second consecutive victory.
 
Aidan Conroy scored the Wildcats' first win at 149, before Tony Palumbo and Adam Flatt earned hard fought wins at 157 and 165. Nathaniel Powers and Konner Pritchard registered major decisions at 174 and 184, respectively, while Michael Moore pinned his opponent at 197.
 
Three in a Row
At 157 pounds, Tony Palumbo owns a 7-7 overall record. The freshman enters the dual on a three-match win steak, dating back to a sudden-victory win over Nathan Russell of then-No. 20 Pittsburgh, Jan. 9. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native has tallied five decisions, one technical fall and a pin.
 
Leading The Pack
Sophomore Konner Pritchard and freshman Tony Palumbo lead the team with seven wins apiece. At 184, Pritchard has registered three decisions and three major decisions. Wrestling at 157, Palumbo enters the dual on a three-match win streak, dating back to a sudden-victory win over then-No. 20 Pittsburgh's Nathan Russell, Jan. 9. The rookie has tallied five decisions, one technical fall and a pin.
