Davidson Falls at The Citadel In Season Opener

 – The Davidson football team fell to The Citadel Bulldogs, 69-0, in their season opener Saturday evening at Johnson Hagood Stadium. 
 
In addition to 602 yards on the ground and eight rushing touchdowns, The Citadel (1-0) held the Wildcats (0-1) to just 104 total yards.
 
Running back Evan McField recorded a game-high 132 yards off 20 attempts with one touchdown, while Isiaha Smith ran for 109 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead both teams.
 
Defensively, the Bulldogs held Davidson (0-1) to just 46 yards rushing, while forcing four interceptions.
 
Linebacker Zack Popovec led both teams with a career-high nine tackles for the Wildcats, while defensive lineman Chris Woods and defensive back Ben Rowell each tallied a personal-best eight tackles.
 
The Citadel raced out to an early 21-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring twice off Davidson turnovers.
 
The Wildcat defense held the Bulldogs scoreless for most of the second quarter, including a forced fumble by linebacker Ryan Felice that resulted in a touchback.
 
The Citadel closed the half, scoring with 30 seconds remaining to take a 35-0 lead. The Bulldogs outgained Davidson 280-75 in total yards, including 213-23 in rushing yards in the first 30 minutes. Quarterback Dominique Allen went 5-for-5 with 67 yards.
 
At the end of the third quarter the Bulldogs had a 55-0 lead, scoring three rushing touchdowns.
 
Two more rushing touchdowns in the fourth capped off the scoring drive for The Citadel.
 
The Wildcats will host Catawba in their home opener Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
