Highlights
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson extended its home-unbeaten streak to 15 straight with a 2-1 victory over USC Upstate Friday evening in non-conference men's soccer action at Alumni Stadium.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-3-2, while Upstate falls to 4-3-0.
Valeriy Sviderskiy, who scored a pair of goals against the Spartans in their last meeting, beat a pair of defenders to his right and slid a shot past goalkeeper Hassan Haddad to put the 'Cats up, 1-0, midway through the first half.
After threatening with a number of chances early in the final stanza, the Wildcats finally added a much-needed goal in the 79th minute.
The eventual game-winner came when Christian Fechter played a corner to the far post to Jess Smith, who headed it across to Alec Rotunda for his second goal and difference maker of the season.
Leon Schwarzer scored the Spartans' lone goal in the closing minutes off a misplayed clearance.
In addition to controlling a majority of the possession, Davidson limited Gordon Wild, the nation's leading scorer to just one shot attempt.
