'Cats Kick Off 2015 Saturday At The Citadel On ESPN3

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Wildcats will face Southern Conference foe The Citadel for the first time in 30 years when they travel to Charleston, S.C., for a 6 p.m. contest that will air on ESPN3.

The Wildcats will face Southern Conference foe The Citadel for the first time in 30 years when they travel to Charleston, S.C., for a 6 p.m. contest that will air on ESPN3.
The Wildcats are 55-56-5 (.474) in season openers, including 16-38-2 on the road.
Saturday's game will mark the 57th meeting between the Wildcats and Bulldogs, which is Davidson's second longest running series (VMI - 58, The Citadel - 56, Furman - 54). In a series dating back to the 1909 season, The Citadel holds a record of 31-21-4 against Davidson.
On Oct. 2, 1965, Davidson defeated The Citadel on the road, 14-0. Of the 40 living players from the 1965 squad, 34 will be in attendance on Saturday celebrating the 50th anniversary. Joined by two 1965 coaches, the team will be dressed in red sitting right behind the team's bench.

SMITH NAMED TO FRED MITCHELL AWARD WATCH LIST
Place-kicker Trevor Smith finished his rookie season ranked second on the team in scoring with 55 points from 9-of-13 field goals and 28-of-29 PAT's that placed him on the Fred Mitchell Award Watch List. The Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award is given to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker among more than 750 FCS, Division II, III, NAIA and NJCAA football teams. Smith also earned 2015 Preseason All-America Honorable Mention honors by USA College Football.
MORRIS REWRITES THE RECORD BOOK IN 2014
Wide receiver William Morris enters his final season at Davidson at the top of the leader board. The Dallas, Texas, native finished the 2014 season with a school-record 1,224 yards receiving and 98 receptions, the most in a season at Davidson. In the season finale against Valparaiso, Morris caught 10 passes for 122 yards to finish with 1,224 yards receiving for the season that broke a 44-year-old Davidson record, which was held by Mike Mikolayunas since 1970. Morris enters his senior campaign just 344 yards from matching the program's all-time receiving yards record.
NEW ADDITIONS TO STAFF
Head Coach Paul Nichols added five new members to his coaching staff prior to the start of the 2015 season. Defensive line coach Will Windham (Mississippi State, '07) joined the Wildcat staff after a year at Penn State as a graduate assistant. Quarterbacks coach Jarrail Jackson (Oklahoma, '01) came to Davidson after three seasons at Washington State with the most recent title, Director of Player Relations. Defensive Analyst Nic Workman (Ohio Dominican, '14), offensive analyst Adam Pluta (Salem State, '15) and Director of Football Operations Nick Decker (Ohio State, '10) are also in their first season with the Wildcats.
