Foy's Home Run Helps Lift Wildcats Past Richmond, 4-3

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Second baseman Sam Foy's two-run home run in the seventh helped lift the Davidson baseball team past the Richmond Spiders, 4-3, Thursday night at Wilson Field.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 25-19 overall and 13-9 in the A-10, while the Spiders fell to 26-22 on the season and 14-8 in the league.
The 'Cats were edged 8-7 in hits, while both teams committed an error. Catcher Jake Sidwell led Davidson with two hits and one run scored in three at bats, while first baseman David Daniels followed with two hits in five at bats.
Richmond's center fielder Tanner Stanley led both teams with a 2-for-4 performance, two runs scored and one RBI.
With the Spiders up 3-1, Foy sailed one over the right field fence that scored Sidwell and tied the score at three in the seventh.
Foy's homer marks the fourth-straight game with a homerun for the Wildcats.
Davidson continued with the momentum in its next at bat as center fielder Cam Johnson, who drew a walk, scored the winning run off a Spider error after pinch hitter Tyler Agard singled to left field.
Davidson kept Richmond scoreless for the final five innings thanks to four Wildcats pitchers. RHP Westin Whitmire recorded his second win of the season for the 'Cats, while RHP Matt Saeta closed out the night with his fifth save of the season.
Three Spiders appeared on the mound for Richmond, including RHP Keenan Bartlett who pitched the final inning and allowed one run and faced five batters for the loss.
The two teams will return to Wilson Field tomorrow, May 15 at 4 p.m.
