ELON, N.C. —  Wrapping up a season-long six-match road trip as well as playing their final road contest of the regular season, the Davidson women's tennis team fell at Elon, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
Â
The Wildcats dropped to 10-8 on the year, while the Phoenix moved to 13-6. Both teams were former Southern Conference foes before leaving for the Atlantic 10 and the Colonial Athletic Association.
Â
Elon started the match with wins of 8-3 and 8-4 at No. 1 and 3, respectively, to earn the doubles point. The pair of Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton impressed again at No. 2 for the Wildcats, collecting an 8-4 win to run their record to a team-leading 13-5.
Â
Davidson's lone team point came from No. 6 singles player Ally Sexton, who improved to 3-3 on the year with a super tie-breaker win of 10-5 after splitting the first two sets. She won the first one, 6-4, but lost the second set in a tie-breaker, 9-7.
Â
A pair of personal-best win streaks were snapped Tuesday, as Feaster had her seven-match streak come to an end at No. 1 and Ava Todd's 16-match win streak was halted. Playing at the top singles slot for the first time, Feaster dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to fall to 13-5 on the year.
Â
Todd's remarkable 16 straight wins ended after she fell 10-3 in a super tie-breaker at No. 3. The freshman won the first set, 6-2, but then lost in a second-set tie-breaker, 7-5, to force the super tie-breaker, which was played since the team match had been decided.
Â
Sarah Stein also played a super tie-breaker at No. 5, falling 10-6, after she split the first two sets, winning 6-4 and then dropping a 7-5 decision.
Â
Davidson plays its final two matches at home this weekend with matches against Charlotte and Appalachian State, April 10 and 11.
