
Davidson Drops a Close 4-3 Match at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. — In a matchup of former Southern Conference opponents, the Davidson women's tennis team fell just short as they dropped a 4-3 decision on the road to UNCG Wednesday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The team match came down to the No. 4 singles position between Sarah Stein and the Spartans' Jamie Grinberg, with the match going all three sets. Stein came back from dropping the first set, 6-2, with a 6-3 win in the second set, but fell short in the final set, 6-3, to give UNCG the winning team point.
Davidson's two-match win streak was halted as it fell to 10-7 on the season, while UNCG improved to 7-8.
The pair of Ava Todd and Jenna Brunner tied the match at 3-3 for the Wildcats with strong wins at No. 3 and 5 singles, respectively. Todd, who was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie Performer of the Week on Tuesday, ran her win streak to 16 in a row and bumped her overall record to 16-1 with a 7-6, 6-0 victory. Brunner took a 6-4, 7-6 decision for her ninth singles win of the season.
Giving Davidson its first point of the day was freshman Anna Catharine Feaster at No. 2. The three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week winner rolled to a solid 6-1, 6-2 victory to increase her overall record to 13-4. She also ran her win streak to a season-high seven straight, two better than her pervious season high this year.
UNCG captured the doubles point to start the match, taking close 8-7 and 8-4 decisions at No. 1 and 3. The pair of Feaster and Ally Sexton collected their 12th win together with an 8-6 win at No. 2.
Davidson wraps up its season-long six-match road swing with a trip to Elon, April 7. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
