DAVIDSON, N.C. — Annie Brockett led five players with multiple goals and Davidson snapped a two-game losing streak with a solid 17-9 victory at home over Saint Francis on a sunny Saturday afternoon in nonconference women's lacrosse at Richardson Stadium.
The Wildcats evened their record at 2-2 on the season and remained unbeaten at 5-0 now in the series vs. SFU.
Brockett had her third four-goal game this year to pace the offense and match her personal best, while Lucy Sexton and Morgan Burch added three goals each, with Burch tying her career high.
The sophomore duo of Brockett (14 goals) and Sexton (12) now have a combined 26 goals and 28 points on the season.
Emma Sissman and Nicole Pettiglio rounded out the five multi-goal scorers for Davidson with two scores apiece.
Catherine Schmidt finished with three points on a goal and a career-high tying two assists. Emily Rademacher and Arden Simone each added two points on a goal and an assist. Emily Cooked moved into a tie with Amanda Fleck for second all-time in career points with an assist in the first half to give her 185.
For Saint Francis (2-3), Christina Fini and Rebecca Meyer scored three times each, while Fini added another three assists for six points.
Davidson put the game away early, racing out to a 7-1 lead after 16 minutes of play. Brockett tallied three of the goals.
The Red Flash got to within four at the half, 10-6, by scoring three of the final four goals in the last 8:35 of the half. But, Davidson countered by opening the second half on a 5-0 run to take a 15-6 lead with 17:35 remaining. Sissman scored twice and Schmidt registered her first goal and assist of the year during the run.
Burch capped off the final scoring for the 'Cats with her seventh goal of the year and 2:46 left in the game.
Davidson held advantages in shots (35-19), draw controls (16-12), groundballs (21-19) and caused turnovers (11-5).
Holly Thomas dominated on defense, forcing a career-high four turnovers, while adding three draw controls and three groundballs. Rademacher had a nice defensive game as well, forcing a career-high three turnovers to go with four groundballs and three draw controls, both season highs.
Sissman recorded a season and team-high four draw controls, while Simone added two groundballs, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
Goalie Katy Boyle finished with five saves between the pipes, while the Heather McKee, who earned 10 saves, and Elizabeth Henry split time for the Red Flash.
Davidson closes out playing four of its first five games at home by hosting Bucknell Wednesday, March 11, at 6 p.m.
