DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team earned its seventh straight win, rolling to a 6-1 decision on the road over former Southern Conference foe The Citadel Wednesday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center.
The Wildcats' (8-3, 1-0 A-10) seven-match win streak is their longest since running off an 11-match streak in 1997. They also won their fourth straight on the road this year, while moving to 21-4 since 1988 against the Bulldogs (2-17).
Shamael Chaudhry, Artem Khrapko, J.B. Gough, David Hager and Jordan Hart all continued their winning ways in singles play with victories at No. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6. Davidson earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3.
The duo of Khrapko and Hager moved their record to 6-2 in doubles action with an 8-2 decision, while Chaudhry and Ricky Saad scored their fourth win together after an 8-1 decision.
Chaudhry was impressive again at the No. 1 spot for the 'Cats, cruising to his ninth straight singles win with a 6-1, 6-3 effort to improve to 9-1 on the year.
Joining the freshman with nine wins on the season was Khrapko and Gough. The pair took 6-4, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1 wins at the next two singles slots to bump their records to 9-2 overall. It was Khrapko's ninth consecutive singles wins to tie Chaudhry for best on the season, while Gough is right behind them at eight straight.
Hager evened his singles record to 3-3 with his third victory in a row, scoring a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5, his first of the season at that position.
Hart netted his personal-best sixth straight win by finishing off a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6 to see his overall mark increase to 6-4 on the season.
The Wildcats return home for their second Atlantic 10 match of the year, hosting George Mason this Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m.
