Win Streak Stays Alive, 'Cats Take Home Eighth Straight

DAVIDSON, N.C.  — Several winning streaks stayed intact Saturday afternoon when the Davidson men's tennis team won its eighth consecutive match by earning a 6-1 Atlantic 10 win over George Mason at the Covington Tennis Courts.

The Wildcats' (9-3, 2-0 A-10) eight-match win streak is the longest since running off an 11-match streak in 1997. They remained perfect against the Patriots (3-5, 0-2 A-10) at 3-0 since 1988.

In addition to keeping the team win streak alive, Shamael Chaudhry, Artem Khrapko, J.B. Gough, David Hager and Jordan Hart each kept their own personal singles win streaks going with victories at No. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6.

After Mason took the doubles point, the 'Cats came back to sweep all six singles for the team win.

Pushing their win streaks to 10 in a row was Chaudhry and Khrapko at No. 1 and 2, respectively. Chaudhry came back from dropping the first set in a tie-breaker, 7-2, to run off 6-1 and 6-4 wins in the next two sets. He pushed his overall record to 10-1.

Khrapko, who also tallied his 10th win of the year, scored a pair of 6-4, 6-4 victories at the No. 2 slot.

Joining the duo with a team-best 10 wins was Gough. The sophomore netted his ninth win at No. 3 earning a 6-1, 7-5 decision.

Both Hager and Hart, who combined to start the year 0-7, saw their win streaks improve to four and seven in row, respectively. Hager ran his overall record to 4-3 after winning a three-setter, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Hart cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 6 to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Rounding out the singles was Ricky Saad at No. 4. The sophomore won a solid 9-7 first-set tie-breaker and then finished off the match with a 6-2 win to move to 5-2 on the season.

Davidson continues league play when it hosts George Washington, March 14, at 1 p.m.
