DAVIDSON, N.C.  — Davidson ran its win streak to nine straight matches with an impressive 4-3 win over George Washington in Atlantic 10 men's tennis action Saturday afternoon in the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats' (10-3, 3-0 A-10) nine-match win streak is the longest since running off an 11-match streak in 1997. Their win came against a Colonial (5-9, 0-1 A-10) team that was picked No. 1 in the preseason league poll and was ranked in the ITA top-75 to start the year.

"I couldn't be more proud of the effort our guys gave today," said head coach Drew Barrett. "A really tough win against a really good team."

The match opened with Davidson taking the doubles point behind 8-5 and 8-4 wins at No. 2 and 3, respectively. The pair of Jordan Hart and J.B. Gough collected their fifth win together at the No. 2 spot, while David Hager and Artem Khrapko earned their team-best seventh win at No. 3.

It was a battle to the end in singles action, with the top three positions going three sets each, but Davidson was able to win one of those matches as well as take victories at No. 4 and 5 to keep the team win streak intact.

The duo of Shamael Chaudhry and Gough dropped two of those three setters at No. 1 and 3. Chaudhry saw his personal-best 10-match win streak end with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 defeat at the top spot, while Gough's career-best nine-match win streak was also halted after a 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 decision.

Khrapko was able to secure a very important team point with his three-set victory at No. 2. The freshman worked his way back from dropping a first-set 6-4 defeat to run his win streak to team-high 11 in a row by winning a 7-4 tie-breaker in the final set. He forced the third set by winning the second one, 7-5.

The duo of Ricky Saad and David Hager each scored wins in straight sets to help the 'Cats finish it out. Saad moved to 6-2 on the year after a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4, while Hager won his fifth straight with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5. He also remained perfect at that position with a 3-0 mark

Davidson wraps up the weekend with a 1 p.m. A-10 match against Saint Joseph's at home Sunday.
