DAVIDSON, N.C.  — It was a perfect Atlantic 10 weekend for the Davidson men's tennis team as they ran their win streak to 10 in a row with a sweeping 7-0 win over Saint Joseph's on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Covington Tennis Courts.
Â
The Wildcats (11-3, 4-0 A-10) finished 2-0 on the weekend after a thrilling 4-3 win yesterday over George Washington, who was the preseason No. 1 team in the league poll. Their 10-match win streak is one off the longest since an 11-match streak in 1997.
Â
"It was a tough battle after yesterday's great win, but our guys stayed focused and found a way to win," said head coach Drew Barrett.
Â
Though it won 7-0, Davidson played five three-set matches at No. 2-6 singles and prevailed in all five of them.
Â
The Wildcats opened the match with 8-6 and 8-5 wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles to grab the doubles point. Evan Watkins and Jack Riazzi won their first together at No. 1, while J.B. Gough and Jordan Hart won their sixth overall.
Â
Shamael Chaudhry was the lone Wildcat to win in straight sets, scoring a 6-0, 6-4 decision at the top spot to move to 11-2 on the season. The freshman has won 10 of his past 11 matches.
Â
Collecting his team-best 12th win was Artem Khrapko at No. 2, taking his fifth three-set victory of the year with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win. The victory also marked the freshman' 12th straight, a team high this year.
Â
Right behind the freshman was the sophomore tandem of Gough and Ricky Saad at No. 3 and 4 singles. Gough ran his record to 11-3 (10-2 at No. 3) with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory, while Saad came back from falling 6-3 in the first set to win 6-4, 6-3 in the next two sets. He ran his record to 7-2 overall and remained perfect in league play at 4-0.
Â
David Hager registered his sixth win in a row with a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 win at No. 5, where the freshman improved to 4-0.
Â
Finishing out the three-set matches was Jordan Hart at No. 6, winning his first three-set match of the season. The sophomore regrouped from a 6-1 defeat in the first set to grab 7-5 and 6-3 victories in the next two sets to close out the win.
Â
Davidson looks to continue its winning ways at former Southern Conference opponent Wofford, March 18, at 3 p.m.
