CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Behind Ava Todd's 14th consecutive singles victory, the Davidson women's tennis team got back on the winning side as they downed Western Carolina, 5-2, on the road Saturday afternoon.

Davidson snapped a two-match skid to improve to 9-6 on the season. It also ran its all-time record to 27-1 vs. the Catamounts (3-9), winning for the fourth straight season against them.

Todd scored one of the Wildcats' three singles wins, with the other coming by way of a default, to run her record to 14-1 on the season. The freshman won a first-set tie-breaker, 7-3, and then rolled to a 6-2 win in the second set to push her record at No. 3 to 3-0.

Fellow freshman Anna Catharine Feaster won her fifth straight, taking a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles. She ran her overall record to 11-4, second-best on the team.

Giving Davidson its third singles win was its third freshman, Ally Sexton, who also grabbed a match win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 5. The victory was her first collegiate singles win of the season.

After earning a default win at No. 3 doubles to start the overall match, the pair of Elaina Cummer and Jenna Brunner sealed up the doubles points by scoring an 8-6 win at No. 1. They evened their record to 7-7 on the year at the top spot.

Davidson plays its fourth of six matches in a row on the road with a trip to Brevard College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
