Wildcats Drop 10-5 Decision on the Road at Elon

ELON, N.C. — Elon had three players record three points each and Davidson was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit at the half as it was doubled up in a 10-5 setback on the road Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse at Rhodes Stadium.
The two teams were playing each other for the second straight year. Davidson dropped its second straight to fall to 3-4, while Elon, in its second year of playing, improved to 6-3. The Wildcats took last year's first-time matchup, 15-8.
The Phoenix's Stephanie Asher (three goals), Nicole Sinacori (three assists) and Sloane Kessler (two goals, an assist) all had the three points to pace the offense.
Emily Rademacher led Davidson with three points on two goals and an assist, while Emma Sissman and Nicole Pettiglio netted two goals apiece.
Sissman added a team-best five draw controls, while Veronica Fiorino matched her career-best with three.
In a low scoring first half, Elon held a 4-1 lead through 18 minutes of play. Sissman scored the 'Cats' lone goal during that span. Davidson added one more before the half ended with 37 seconds left off the stick of Pettiglio to make 4-2.
Sissman netted her second goal a little less than four minutes into the second half off an assist from Rademacher to bring the 'Cats within 5-3.
Elon countered by putting the game away with four straight goals over the next 11 minutes to open up a 9-3 lead. The 'Cats got two more goals to close to 9-5 before the Phoenix added their final score with 1:54 left for the five-goal win.
Goalie Katy Boyle finished with nine saves, while Elon's Rachel Ramirez was credited with three.
Holding advantages in shots (28-12) and groundballs (19-7) was Elon, while the 'Cats had a 9-8 edge on draw controls. The Phoenix also went a perfect 13-for-13 on clear attempts, while Davidson was 7-of-10.
Davidson returns home for its Atlantic 10 opener next Friday, March 27, against George Washington at 6 p.m.
