DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to Jack Gibbs (30) and Brian Sullivan (22) combining for 52 points, Peyton Aldridge recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead Davidson past Lenoir-Rhyne, 96-64, in an exhibition contest Saturday at John M. Belk Arena.
The Wildcats shot 42.6 percent from the floor, while holding the Bears to just 37.9 percent and 7-of-32 (.219) from long range. Davidson also went 34-of-40 from the charity stripe, including an 11-for-13 effort from Sullivan.
Gibbs, who drilled four of his club's 10 treys, also grabbed seven rebounds to go along with five assists and two steals in 27 minutes.
Behind 19 points from Gibbs in the opening 20 minutes, Davidson raced out to a 29-6 advantage and led 44-14 before going to the break up, 48-23. Sullivan added 12 points in the period for the Wildcats, who went 16-of-17 from the line in the first half.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which took Clemson to double overtime earlier in the week before falling, 87-84, was led by Lawrence Miller's nine points off the bench.
The Wildcats pushed their lead to as many as 33 on a Rusty Reigel triple with just under a minute to play.
Davidson finished with a commanding 52-32 advantage on the glass. Another bright spot for the 'Cats was Nathan Ekwu, who pulled down 12 rebounds in just 17 minutes.
Coming off their first-ever at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament, the Wildcats return four starters from last year's team that finished 24-8 overall and 14-4 in league play. In addition, Davidson captured the A-10 regular season title in its first year as league members after being predicted to finish 12th.
