DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the third consecutive season, Davidson will host in-state foe Lenoir-Rhyne in its lone exhibition contest, Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside John M. Belk Arena.
Coming off their first-ever at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament, the Wildcats finished the 2014-15 season 24-8 overall and 14-4 in league play. In addition, Davidson captured the A-10 regular season title in its first year as league members after being predicted to finish 12th.
Preseason Talking Points
- Davidson returns four starters, including all-conference performers Brian Sullivan (12.7 ppg, 83 3-pointers), Jack Gibbs (16.2 ppg, 4.8 apg, .425 3PT%, .856 FT%) and Peyton Aldridge (9.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 3.1 bpg) from last year's A-10 regular season champions.
- Both Gibbs (first-team) and Sullivan (second-team) were named preseason all-conference, while the Wildcats were picked third behind Dayton and Rhode Island in the preseason poll.
- Jordan Barham (11.8 ppg, 6.1 rpg) and Jake Belford, who started the first six games in 2014-15 before suffering a season-ending injury, also return. Davidson welcomes the addition of freshmen Dusan Kovacevic and KiShawn Pritchett as well as Boston College transfer Will Magarity.
- Last season the Wildcats advanced to their 13th NCAA Tournament appearance and eighth under head coach Bob McKillop, who is in his 27th season at the helm.
- Davidson has won 4 straight regular season conference titles and 11 in the last 14 years.
- The Wildcats are averaging 23.4 wins a year dating back to 2004-05 season.
- Davidson ranked among national leaders in scoring, assists, assist/turnover ratio, 3-point field goals and 3-point field goal percentage a year ago. As usual, Davidson will challenge itself by playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country.
- Four straight seasons a Wildcat has been named Player of the Year; Every scholarship player the last two years has signed a pro contract in Europe. McKillop, a 10-time Conference Coach of the Year, is just 4 wins shy of 500 for his career. He currently ranks 6th among active coaches on the NCAA's list for most seasons with current school and is one of six on that list who has spent their entire careers at that school.
