'Cats Fall to San Diego, 35-10, on Senior Day

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Dallas Kessman (124) and Jereke Armstrong (122) combined for 246 of San Diego's 278 rushing yards to lead the Toreros' to a 35-10 victory over Davidson in Pioneer Football League action Saturday at Richardson Stadium.
The setback drops the Wildcats to 1-9 overall and 0-7 in the league, while San Diego improves to 8-2 and 6-1.
After Trevor Barney put the Toreros up 7-0 on a 37-yard touchdown catch, Davidson answered with a 28-yard field goal from Trevor Smith with 5:15 left in the first half, to make it 7-3.
On the next possession, Chris Willson capped off a 15-play, 75-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to extend San Diego's margin to 14-3 at the half.
Trailing 21-3 following another Torero touchdown run, Davidson cut the deficit to 21-10 on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Mitchell to David Smith with 6:49 left in the third quarter.
Mitchell finished the day 20-of-37 for 180 yards and one interception. The Wildcats' William Morris caught six passes for a game-high 68 yards.
San Diego put the game out of reach with a 20-yard scamper from Kessman and Armstrong 16-yard score with 6:47 left. Armstrong's touchdown was set up by a 56-yard run by Kessman.
In addition to its strong running game, the Toreros finished with 429 total yards, while holding the Wildcats to 228 yards and just 10 first downs.
Despite the loss, Davidson's defense finished with six sacks, including three from freshman Boo Jordan.
The Wildcats will travel to DeLand, Fla., to face Stetson Saturday, Nov. 21 for the 2015 season finale. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
