BOSTON, Mass. – Jack Gibbs of the Davidson men's basketball team has been named to the 2015-16 Lute Olson Preseason All-America Team, as announced Monday afternoon.
A junior from Westerville, Ohio, Gibbs averaged 16.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 2014-15 to earn all-league honors.
In addition to the Wildcats being picked to finish third in the 2015-16 Atlantic 10 standings, the 6-0 point guard was voted preseason all-conference.
Coming off their first-ever at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament, the Wildcats return four starters from last year's team that finished 24-8 overall and 14-4 in league play. In addition, Davidson captured the A-10 regular season title in its first year as league members after being predicted to finish 12th.
Davidson will tip-off its 2015-16 season with a 7:30 p.m. contest against UCF on Saturday, Nov. 14 inside John M. Belk Arena.
About the Lute Olson Award
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible for the preseason Watch List.
The award is named in honor of Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.
