DAVIDSON, N.C. — Hunting for its first Atlantic 10 victory, Davidson will travel to Dayton Thursday and then come back home to host Duquesne Sunday afternoon in women's soccer at Alumni Stadium.
The Matchup
Davidson (4-7, 0-2 A-10) plays an away and home Atlantic 10 games this week. It travels to Dayton for a Thursday evening game at 7:30 p.m. before coming home to face Duquesne Sunday at Alumni Stadium for a 1 p.m. contest.
The All-Time Series/Last Meetings
The Wildcats and the Flyers have played each other twice, but not since the 1993 season when Davidson lost at Dayton, 4-2. The series against the Dukes is all even at 1-1-1. Both teams met last year in Pittsburgh where Duquesne took a 1-0 double-overtime victory on its home field.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson has dropped its last two games after rattling off a three-game win streak ... it lost to VCU (2-4) and La Salle (0-1) to open league play last week ... Maggie Boyd and Sarah Tuggle each scored in the VCU defeat ... it was Boyd's first collegiate goal, while Tuggle tallied her eighth career score and third of the season ... Vicky Bruce leads the team with eight assists and 12 points ... she ranks first in the A-10 in both assists and shots (49) ... Bruce was named A-10 Player of the Week, Sept. 21 ... Ashley Finke and Tuggle are second on the team with three goals and seven points ... defender Dani Johnson has three goals ... Davidson has 20 goals as a team, good for a second-place tie in the A-10 ... it also ranks second in shots (165) and third in points (54) ... goalkeeper Becca Ravitz has started four games and has 15 saves to go with a 1.50 goals against average (GAA) ... Davidson recorded a season-high 40 shots vs. Francis Marion ... the 'Cats' first three A-10 opponents are picked to finish in the top three of the preseason A-10 poll ... head coach Greg Ashton picked up his 181st career win and 110th at Davidson with the win vs. FMU ... he is nine wins away from becoming the program's all-time winningest coach ... the 'Cats return 16 letterwinners, including eight starters ... they welcome 11 newcomers to this year's team ... Davidson was picked to finish 13th in their second year in the A-10 after going 2-5-1 in its first go-around.
Scouting the Flyers
Dayton is on a three-game win streak and sits at 4-7 on the season ... it won its first two league games last week against Saint Louis (1-0) and George Mason (4-2) ... the Flyers are 2-3 at home ... Ashley Campbell paces the offense with six goals and four assists for 16 points, tied for second-most in the league ... Nicole Waters has 10 points, six of them on assists ... goalkeeper Kaelyn Johns has started all 11 games ... she owns a 1.91 GAA and has picked up 50 saves ... the Flyers are second in the league in shots with 164 and tied for third with 18 assists ... UD's non-conference schedule included Ohio State, Michigan State, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Rice, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barabara ... the Flyers went 12-9-2 with a 5-2-1 record in the A-10 last year ... they were the A-10 tournament champions ... they return 17 letterwinners and eight starters ... Dayton was picked to win the A-10 in the preseason coaches poll.
Scouting the Dukes
Sitting at 5-6 (0-2 A-10), Duquesne plays St. Bonaventure at home Thursday before heading to Davidson on Sunday ... it lost to Richmond (1-2) and VCU (0-1) last week to start A-10 play ... the Dukes are 2-3 on the road ... pacing the offense is Katie O'Connor with five goals and four assists for 14 points ... three players are tied with six points each ... in goal, Kyra Murphy has started nine of her 10 games ... she owns a 1.57 GAA and 37 saves ... Duquesne has been outscored 19-17 on the season ... it went 5-10-3 a year ago and 2-5-1 in league play ... the Dukes return 22 letterwinners and eight starters ... they were picked 12th in the preseason poll.
